Data Engineer required by market leading, award-winning financial services organisation on a fully remote basis. This contract will sit outside IR35 and will run for an initial 3-6 months with extensions to follow.

The Data Engineer will provide strategic data analysis to our clients business working closely with both business & technical teams, to gain in-depth understanding of information and trends, in the context of the business operations. The Data Engineer’s role entails creating and maintaining Data Lakes and data warehouses, ensuring that reporting functions correctly. (Our client has a separate BI team who create & maintain all reports).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with stakeholders to continually assess and redefine data technology, to support changing data patterns and business use cases, bridging the gap between Data Engineering, Business and Products, by constantly collaborating to understand data needs
  • Studies and understands the business processes and applications, including their effect on data and reporting, to apply the knowledge designing the Data Lake, data warehouses
  • Systematic and rule orientated when gathering, reviewing and evaluating data, including considering precision, highlight inconsistencies and inaccuracies
  • Responsible for designing, building, & supporting components of the Data Lake and data warehouses, including: extraction, such as ETL (Extract-Transform-Load); environments; databases; dashboards; filters; fields; etc.
  • Creates processes for maintaining or/and capturing metadata
  • Review to ensure that information loaded is accurate and introduce monitors and alerts to ensure this is maintained
  • Build solutions to automate high volumes of data analysis, where necessary solving data volume and scaling challenges
  • Troubleshooting data applications to identify and resolve issues
  • Stay current with customer needs and strategies
  • Identify ways to increase adoption and customer satisfaction
  • Understand and negotiate needs and expectations of multiple stakeholders

Required Background:

  • Strong SQL and database skills, using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Managed solutions based on Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Experienced in data and trend analysis, to understand the drivers behind the business and the need for change
  • Detailed knowledge and experience using Big Data solutions, especially Azure Data Lake, for analytics of unstructured, semi-structured and structured data
  • Detailed knowledge and experience using data warehouse solutions, especially Azure SQL Data Warehouse, for enterprise analysis of structured data
  • Proficient in capturing and prioritising requirements
  • Strong analytical skills, to understand information such as transactions and behaviour, to help identify opportunities and make recommendations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving ability
  • Well organised, enthusiastic and self-motivated


  • Worked with Microsoft Azure applications, databases and reporting
  • Delivered data insight and reporting using Microsoft Power BI
  • Ability to be proactive, without direct supervision & can work well as part of a fast-paced team

This contract will run for an initial 3-6 months with extensions to follow. The contract sits outside IR35 and comes with a day rate of £450-500 per day.
