Location: Central Bristol – Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office

Salary: £60,000–£65,000 + 10–15% annual bonus

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Infrastructure Engineer ready to take the next step into leadership, or an established technical team leader looking for a new challenge?

We’re recruiting an Infrastructure Team Lead to oversee the day-to-day running of a specialist infrastructure and security function within a well-established financial services environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, service improvement and infrastructure project delivery. You’ll help ensure critical technology services remain secure, resilient and reliable, while supporting the development of the team and the continued evolution of the organisation’s IT estate.

The Role (75% Technical / 25% People Management)

You’ll take responsibility for coordinating a team of infrastructure professionals, maintaining high service standards and providing senior-level technical support across a predominantly Microsoft-based environment.

Working closely with the Infrastructure & Security Manager, you’ll help shape technical priorities, support strategic initiatives and ensure infrastructure services continue to meet operational and security requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the infrastructure team, allocating workloads, setting priorities and ensuring effective delivery.
  • Coach and develop team members, supporting technical progression, performance management and knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate team rotas, holiday cover and on-call arrangements to maintain service availability, including out-of-hours incident response and planned maintenance.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure incidents, problems and technical challenges.
  • Remain hands-on with third-line support, infrastructure changes, troubleshooting and the implementation of technical improvements.
  • Contribute to infrastructure strategy, project planning and the delivery of technology initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with service desk, applications and wider technology colleagues to maintain reliable and responsive IT services.
  • Support change management processes, including chairing change advisory meetings when required.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen security, improve operational efficiency and enhance the resilience of core technology platforms.
  • Help maintain effective relationships with external suppliers and technology partners.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll bring a strong infrastructure engineering background, confident leadership skills and the ability to balance operational responsibilities with longer-term improvements.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including virtual machines, virtual networks, load balancing and cloud storage.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Hyper-V and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with networking technologies, including switching, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, firewalls and VPNs.
  • A solid understanding of cybersecurity, identity protection, vulnerability management and secure infrastructure configuration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Conditional Access and multi-factor authentication.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams and SharePoint Online.
  • Experience supporting complex technical incidents and providing third-line infrastructure support.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring or coordinating technical colleagues, with the communication skills to bring out the best in a team.
  • An organised, methodical approach to troubleshooting, problem-solving and managing competing priorities.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to colleagues at all levels and remain calm under pressure.

Experience across a broad range of the following technologies would be beneficial:

  • An excellent wider benefits package.
  • Hybrid working, with just two days per week required in the central Bristol office.
